Ano Nuevo State Park - Seal Walk
Aņo Nuevo State Park is the site of the largest mainland breeding colony in the world for the northern elephant seal. During January through March the males battle for mates on the beaches and the females give birth to their pups on the dunes, and we will be hiking out to to see the seals under a docent-led tour. Our tour will take about 2.5 hours, and consist of an easy 3 mile hike over sand and gently sloping terrain.
Be prepared for windy, rainy conditions, as well as muddy trails. Layered clothing, sturdy shoes, and hooded rain gear are recommended. Bring bottled water for drinking as there is none available during the walk.
Food or beverages are not sold at the Park, and water is not available on the trail. Picnic tables are available for use after the guided walks, and last year we all packed a lunch and enjoyed a nice picnic outside.
We will be meeting at the entrance to the intepretative center, just off the main parking lot, at 9:30AM for a 9:45AM Tour departure. There is a $10 parking fee when you enter the park.
